Tightfisted Fashion™ is a leading secondhand clothing reseller that fuses vintage, modern and African cultural aesthetics into our collections. We offer estate and closet cleaning, personal shopping, sourcing, styling, consigning, personal branding services, expert speaking engagement, film, TV, theater and photoshoot sourcing. Tightfisted Fashion specializes in styles and fashion from 1960s - Y2K.

In 2011, Tightfisted Fashion™ officially launched its online resale and consignment store. The following year in 2012, Tightfisted Fashion™ opened a brick-and-mortar retail store in Station North in Baltimore, MD and ran it successfully for 10 years until closing in 2022 to pursue other endeavors. Tightfisted Fashion™ organizes events to promote and support sustainability such as pop-ups, fashion shows, thrifting tours and our legacy event Vintage Black Expo™.

WHAT DOES TIGHTFISTED FASHION STAND FOR?

What does Tightfisted Fashion™ mean?

There are two meanings: one represents one's budget, the other one's beliefs. We believe that one can be fashionable, have variety and reflect individually without spending a lot of money. We also believe that we can be more “green” and conservative in our consumption if we use other creative outlets/alternatives to acquire the things we desire. While fashion is our focus, the tight fist also represents empowering BIPOC businesses, celebrating African heritage, and our commitment to green, sustainable and worthy causes.

HERSTORY

Welcome #TeamTightfisted,

My name is Zakiya and I enjoy thirfting, traveling, creating art, poetry and connecting with people. I started selling with online retail marketplaces like eBay and ETSY, selling items at community yard sales, and vending at area markets, to make extra money and explore my interests in fashion. In 2010, I started blogging about my thrifting adventures and showcasing my daily outfits on Blogger. With the encouragement of friends, families and customers, I started to consider taking my business more serious and created Tightfisted Fashion™.

Since then, I have stayed grounded and involved in the local community curating events, experiences and activities centered around Black and sustainable fashion. You may see me throughout the DMV vending, participating in local events/programs, mentoring, holding workshops and consulting on secondhand and fashion. Connect, collaborate and curate with me!
